Simple and Super effective Home Remedies for Laryngitis
Inflammation of the vocal cords is known as laryngitis. The swelling can be caused by bacterial or viral infection or due to excessive strain on the vocal cord. In laryngitis, usually the voice becomes weak or hoarse. Dry cough and sore throat might also take place due to the same. Usually the infection goes away gradually with time, but in some cases, medical attention is needed.

Fresh ginger has a soothing effect on the throat as it acts like a balm on the swelled mucus membranes in the larynx. Fresh ginger roots can be boiled in water for 10 minutes. The water should be strained and let to cool. To this lemon juice and some honey can be added and this can be taken for laryngitis. The ginger tea can be consumed as many times you want. Ginger candies are also good. Raw thin slices of ginger root can also be eaten for curing laryngitis.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
The anti-microbial properties of apple cider vinegar are very useful in treating the laryngitis infection. There are two ways of using apple cider vinegar for treatment of laryngitis. In a cup of water mix 2 tablespoons of unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey. Adding a little cayenne pepper to the mix will enhance the effectiveness of the same. This mixture can be taken 2 times in a day. Along with this gurgling with apple cider vinegar mixed in water can also be highly effective for laryngitis.
- Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is acidic in nature. This will help in getting rid of the harmful bacteria and virus causing laryngitis. Moreover, it will help in loosening up any mucus deposition. Take a lemon and squeeze its juice in a glass of warm water. To this add ½ teaspoon of sea salt. If that is not available, normal salt will also do. Use this solution for frequent gurgling to give comfort to the sore vocal cords.
- Onion syrup
A natural expectorant, onion syrup acts as a great remedy for laryngitis. It has shown great results in the treatment of larynx inflammation. Take 3-4 onions and cut them into small pieces. Put them in 4 cups of water and let it simmer until a thicker consistency is reached (like syrup). Put 5 tablespoons of the syrup in a glass of warm water. To this add a few drops of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of honey. Slowly sip this mixture and feel the soothing feeling in the throat.
