Bad breath or halitosis is a common condition people suffer from time to time. Bad breath is not only embarrassing, but also socially unacceptable. But there is nothing to worry as there are numerous ways by which you can fight back your bad breath. Following tips can help you get rid of bad breath while getting assured of proper oral hygiene.

Brush twice a day

To prevent build-up of bacteria in your mouth, brush your teeth two times a day for minimum 2-3 minutes. Using fluoride toothpaste would be a good idea to keep your breath smelling fresh.

Brush or scrape your tongue

To remove any residue that may be accumulating between the folds and taste buds on the tongue, invest in tongue scraper. In case you can’t get access on tongue scraper, you can employ your toothbrush for the concerned task.

Floss Daily

Flossing is a way to remove food particles from in between the teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. If food debris is not removed, they cause bacteria which make a home there, causing bad breath.

Use an antibacterial mouthwash

Rinsing mouth using an antibacterial mouthwash before going to bed can help you to get rid of bad breath. Before buying a mouthwash check its label for chlorhexidine or hydrogen peroxide and avoid alcohol-based ones.

Cut back on coffee

It may be tempting, but the smell of coffee is enough strong to get off your mouth. Instead of having two or three cups of coffee daily, switch to herbal or green tea.

Stay hydrated

Be sure to gulp down sufficient amount of water on a daily basis to prevent your mouth feeling dry. Drinking water helps in washing away food debris and bacteria that are considered to be the primary cause of bad breath, thus helps in keeping the bad breath at bay.

Quit smoking

Smoking contributes to bad breath that cannot be spared even after brushing. Cigarettes, pipes, and snuff are likely to make your breath smell of stale smoke. Moreover, smoking also contributes to gum disease, another reason of bad breath.

Chew sugar-free gum

Chewing sugar-free gum stimulates saliva production, and prevents your mouth from drying out. It induces a sense of cooling sensation and gives you a fresh breath.

Visit your dentist

The best way to assure good oral hygiene is to pay regular visits to a dentist. If you are struggling with chronic bad breath, schedule an appointment first with a dentist to rule out any dental issue.
